• Tandem Staffing allows your childcare center to connect with substitutes and short-term fill ins, either in advance or at the last minute. We offer permanent staffing through a temporary-to-permanent model, as well.

  • Tandem is a cheaper, digital alternative to other temporary staffing agencies. We credential all of our providers to meet state requirements, as well as provide comprehensive profiles that outline their state verified credentials, employment histories, and education.

Using the Platform

  • Sign your center up and immediately get started by posting your staffing needs on the site. If you need assistance posting your needs, please contact support@join-tandem.com.

  • 1. Sign your center up to get started.

    2. Post a job listing with relevant job details, such as pay rate, job requirements, and schedule.

    3. Tandem will review your job listing and begin evaluating providers that may be a good fit, based on your specified requirements and qualifications.

    4. Once we confirm a provider, we will notify you via email and/or text, depending on your preferences. We will email you their documents and complete any additional state requirements at this time (ex. for Ohio centers, we will submit the 1176).

    5. The provider will work the confirmed schedule. If there are changes to the schedule, such as cancellations or late notices, you will receive this information via text and/or email.

    6. After a providers shift, they will be paid immediately by Tandem. They will clock in and out at the beginning and end of their shift, and provide break minutes, if a break was taken. You will be able to see the clocked hours on the My Jobs dashboard in the portal.

    7. You will be charged weekly for wages and associates fees for the workers who worked the week prior. You will have 48 hours from every Friday at 8pm to correct or dispute any of the charges that were on the weekly invoice.

  • You can post either a Short-Term job or a Trial Run.

    - Short-Term jobs are substitute positions that can be for a single day or defined period of time, spanning a week or multiple weeks.

    - Trial Runs are jobs specifically designed for centers looking for permanent staff. Using a temporary-to-permanent strategy, we place a worker that is interested in and qualified for the role at your center for a minimum of 120 hours. During those 120 hours, you can determine at any point that the provider isn’t the right fit. At the end of the Trial Run, you can offer the provider to join your center permanently, and if it’s a mutual fit, they can join your staff, at no additional cost.

  • Compliance is at the foundation of vetting. We ensure that all Tandem providers’ meet state requirements to work in a childcare center, including having a completed FBI/BCI background check that we cover the cost of. On top of this, we verify other state provided credentials, including past employment, trainings, and education. To further screen providers, we collect a number of pieces of other information, including a bio and notable qualifications. We use all this data to create a comprehensive profile of the provider.

  • Absolutely! A provider’s past experience on Tandem is integral to our vetting process. You will be able to view all of a provider’s reviews and star ratings.

  • We typically can find you a substitute within a day’s time. However, for temp-to-permanent hires, it can take, on average, a week’s time. The more required qualifications, such as a bachelors degree, that the job has, the longer it will take to fill. This is due to limited providers being available with higher credentials.

  • Once you hire a provider, they will be added to your Staff. You can view your Staff on the site’s homepage or by clicking Providers in the navigation menu. You can message, book, and pay your Staff from your Staff list or by clicking on their profile.

Managing Payment

  • Tandem charges a flat rate of 35% on top of the provider’s hourly rate. For temp-to-permanent hires, there is a 120 hour cap.

  • You will be charged weekly for wages and associates fees for the workers who worked the week prior. You will have 48 hours from every Friday at 8pm to correct or dispute any of the charges that were on the weekly invoice.

  • You do! We know pay rates are not one size fits all. You will be able to set a pay scale when you post your need. Tandem will use your pay scale and notes to set the pay rate for each hired provider.

  • Tandem’s providers are 1099k contractors, so we issue all relevant tax forms to providers.

  • You can add either a credit card or bank account. Credit cards incur a 2.9% fee due to processing fees. Both payment methods can be connected via secure, third party payment processors, including Stripe and Plaid.
